THE RENTAL

To rent a car with Joyride Car Rentals, you must be between 21 and 75 years old and hold a valid driver’s license for at least three years. For groups A and B, the minimum age is 21, while for all other groups, you must be at least 25 years old.

If you do not have a European driving license or your driving license is not in English, you need an International Driving Permit (IDP). This does not apply to British citizens. You can apply for an international driving license at your local automobile association. More information about obtaining an International Driving Permit can be found at www.internationaldrivingpermit.org.

You will need a passport or identity card (for EU citizens), a driving license (an international driving permit for non-EU citizens excluding British citizens), and a credit card.

Only persons listed as drivers on the hire contract can drive the car. If you are not named on the hire contract as an additional driver, you cannot drive the car and the insurance will not be valid.

Yes, you can add an additional driver when you book online or upon signing the rental agreement at pick-up. Both the primary driver and the additional driver must be present to sign the rental agreement. The fee for an additional driver is €15 for the entire rental period.

Leaving the island or crossing Greek borders with our vehicles is generally not allowed. Ferrying the car from Kefalonia requires advance authorisation from our company. Ithaca, part of the Kefalonia municipality, is generally allowed. However, the renter is responsible for returning the car to Kefalonia at their own cost. We cannot provide assistance outside of Kefalonia.

Many websites offer cheap rentals, but few are licensed, reliable, and recommended. Just as you would choose a secure flight company and reliable tour operator for your holidays, car hire is equally important. Pets are allowed in our vehicles, but the renter must ensure special coverage for the upholstery. Renters are responsible for any damage caused by pets. Vehicles should be returned clean and free of pet hair to avoid additional cleaning charges.

PICK UP & DROP OFF

Our offices are open until late, and out-of-hours collections and deliveries are usually possible upon request. Some hire companies may charge a supplement for this service, but we do not. Please provide your flight number when booking so we can accommodate any delays.

Yes, one-way rentals are available. Please specify the pick-up and drop-off points when booking.

To avoid additional costs, return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as provided. Additional fuel cannot be refunded.

We will meet and greet you upon arrival. Look for our representative holding a sign with our “Joyride” logo or your name as soon as you exit the airport. If you don’t see us immediately, it means we might be attending to another arrival. Please ensure your mobile phone is available as we will reach out to you typically through WhatsApp with detailed pickup information

Yes, we can deliver your car to your accommodation. Contact us for delivery details. For advance bookings, we recommend pick-up and return at the airport or port to avoid additional transfer or taxi costs.

Yes, we can arrange pickups and returns at locations other than the airport upon request. While the airport is a specific place for pickups and returns, we work with you to find the most convenient location if you have other preferences. Our most preferred and convenient service is delivering the car directly to your accommodation, whether it’s a hotel, apartment, or villa. Please contact us to arrange the best pickup and drop-off points according to your needs

If you book your car at the airport, provide your flight number so we can track your flight and deliver your car upon your arrival without additional charges.

There is generally a grace period, but you need to inform us if your flight is delayed or if you are running late. Late returns may incur a fee.

Absolutely! We understand the convenience of having your rental car delivered directly to your accommodation. Contact us to arrange car delivery to your hotel, apartment, or villa.

EXCESS AND COVERAGE

Collision Damage Waiver (C.D.W.) or Basic Coverage:

 

This plan includes essential accident coverage, liability, and 24-hour roadside assistance. It is based on the C.D.W. insurance policy. This is the insurance we always include in our basic price. It includes third-party insurance (TPI) with an excess for own damages. This excess depends on the model and car category: up to €900 for small cars, up to €1200 for medium cars, and up to €1600 for cabriolets/4x4s and SUVs (VAT not included). However, C.D.W. insurance does not cover damages to the vehicle if they have been caused by negligence on non-asphalted roads or by any violation of Greek Traffic Law. Additionally, damages to tires, rims, undercarriage, or the interior of the vehicle will be paid by the renter. Furthermore, keys, canvas roofs, wheel covers, and other accessories are not covered by C.D.W. insurance.



Advanced Coverage:

 

This plan provides more comprehensive accident coverage and lower deductibles, along with 24-hour roadside assistance. It reduces the renter’s liability/excess amount to less than half of the standard C.D.W. coverage.



Full Damage Waiver (F.D.W) or Complete Coverage:

 

Full Coverage, also referred to as Complete Coverage, covers the vehicle for damages to the car’s body. It also includes additional drivers and passengers with P.A.I. With this package, the excess is waived, excluding glass, tires, mirrors, interior, and underbody. The cost for this insurance package varies depending on the car category. No insurance is valid when driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, or against Greek traffic laws. This comprehensive plan also features Total Roadside Protection for 24/7 breakdown assistance.

Total Roadside Protection provides 24/7 assistance for issues like flat tires, lockouts, running out of fuel, and dead batteries. This service is included in our Full Insurance package. Please note that this package is only available for the island of Kefalonia, excluding Ithaca.

– Roadside Assistance: Available to all customers, this service helps during vehicle breakdowns. Some services may require additional fees.

– Total Roadside Protection: This offers broader 24/7 assistance without extra charges for the services covered. It’s included with our Full Insurance package.

TireGuard covers damages to tires and wheel covers, not including damage to wheels or rims.

Complete Coverage includes protection against accidents and damages, along with Total Roadside Protection for around-the-clock assistance.

Any tickets and administrative sanctions from traffic violations are the renter’s responsibility. Please inform us so we can assist you.

NO DEPOSIT POLICY

No, we do not take or block any deposits from your credit or debit card. Our financial card system provider validates your card to ensure it has sufficient funds to cover potential excess charges.

We utilize advanced card validation services provided by our financial card system provider to ensure the security and validity of your card. During the booking process, they verify that the provided credit or debit card has sufficient funds to cover the car’s excess amount in case of any incidents or damages.

No, unlike many rental companies, we do not block any amount on your card as a security deposit. This means you can use your funds freely without any hold placed on your account.

Our no deposit policy eliminates the inconvenience of having a portion of your credit limit unavailable during the rental period. It provides transparency and convenience, ensuring you will not encounter hidden charges or unexpected holds on your card.

PAYMENT POLICY

No security deposit is needed. We only require a valid credit card or debit card with sufficient funds to cover the excess amount. In exceptional cases, without a credit or debit card available for preauthorisation, the excess must be covered by cash upon arrival.

The total rental cost is paid at the beginning of your rental. The preferred security method is a credit card, which secures the rental for a specific amount. If only a debit card is available, ensure there are sufficient funds to cover the excess amount of your rental. In any case, you will need a valid credit or debit card to be provided for preauthorisation and security purposes. Be aware that no deposit amount will be booked or blocked on your card.

All card payments are processed through Viva Wallet’s secure electronic payment platform using TLS 1.1 encryption with 128-bit SSL.

No, the cardholder must be a named driver on the contract and present at the local office during vehicle collection to prevent fraud.

Last-minute bookings may incur higher rates compared to advance bookings due to increased demand and limited availability. Planning your rental in advance ensures the best rates and availability for your Kefalonia adventure.

For most vehicles, the minimum rental duration is 3 days. For inquiries about rentals under 3 days, please contact our team.

Upon successful reservation, you will receive a confirmation email.

Contact us as soon as possible to change or cancel your reservation at least 14 days before your booking period. Adjustments immediately before or during the rental period cannot be guaranteed.

Bookings payable upon arrival offer flexibility in your travel plans and are free of cancellation fees, although they come with a slightly higher rental cost. We encourage timely cancellations in the event of unexpected circumstances. The cancellation policy applies exclusively to prepaid bookings. Cancellations made 14 days or more before the scheduled rental date are eligible for a full refund with a nominal processing fee deducted. For cancellations within 14 days of the rental date, the refund gradually decreases as the time of cancellation approaches the start of your reservation. If you cancel within 72 hours of the reservation start, you would receive a refund of at least 50%. No-shows on the day of the rental will result in a charge of the full rental amount. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing and explicitly confirmed by the company. Please be aware that no refunds will be issued for early returns or unused rental days.
